Poem: Mortals playing at God

Primeval is the lust to close the gap between man and his maker
But man is hardly satisfied for God to be the reconciler
Man ignores his debts and presumes he is his own savior
Than God’s Word, crucified, they decide they can use more
They have learnt how the spirit rules the physical
And so they study to be mystical -
Through extreme exercise to enter ‘the spirit’.
Today scientists research on how God is a lie
And mystics try by assorted rituals God to demystify.
Since the garden, man has challenged God’s knowledge
The desire to be His equal has thrown them over the safe edge.

Under the presumption that they can replace God in the earth,
Man seems to say: “God is not all that… why can’t we too be God?
Though He made all of the heavens and earth
And sustains every living thing by His breath,
He made himself God and demanded worship
Then fashioned of Himself miniatures with whom to fellowship”.

For the thought of playing God, Lucifer was thrown out of heaven
Herod would not give God glory, he was by an angel smitten;
Even in heaven, saints in white will with crown
Worship prostrate at his feet, face down.

We’ve seen the mightiest men go all out to conquer the world
They are no more, but God is still God;
Man remains God’s servant, even if he rejects his destiny
He may stand tall and strong, yet he’s an object of God’s mercy.
God who rebuked the rebellion of a prophet by a voice from a dumb ass
And a king, He made to grovel like a goat seven years on the grass
Can make any mortal like a worm to do his bidding
Yet they say: “on earth, save we permit Him, God will do nothing
To imagine that God requires our co-operation, his agenda to fulfill
suggests that God’s sovereignty is subject to human will
The delusion of babel pales at such a thought!
Sons of Lucifer  may well suffer the arch angel’s lot!
