About...

Please help me here chum
Do I call this my poetry album -
Or I could say - compendium?
H'm... is there such a word as “poemium”?
O please! don’t mind me sounding so dumb.

If you like call me a word bum
Or say “rhyme-tom”;
I love words in the right form
yet I define my own norm.

So you say where do I get that from?
Certainly not from mum
I mean she’s kind and warm
But words are not just her plum
While for me they are yum-yum.

Really in my head words just strum
With steady beats like from a tom-tom
- That’s a kind of drum.
And when I all these words sum
Ideas turn over like waves of a storm.
Now if you’ll come
Right here I have some.

Poem: This Ring…

Let precious metal and precious stone
Make what we’ve whispered known;
Lustrous work of gleaming gold
Our shy feelings to make bold.

Poem: Love Garden

Did I once say that love was a frivolous thing;
An opium for the weak – their haven, an unreasonable ideal?
Yet now I want to eat, plant and grow fruit in it’s garden
- Than everything else, to niche myself in this fantastical idyll.

Poem: Let my day be filled with love

As dawn is gaily chimed
In the windpipes of dutiful cocks,
Let my mind resonant soar
With the color filling the fields
And today be ushered with hope
As brightness catches on the sky.
So let my day, everyday, be filled with love.

Poem: What I really want

Indeed it’s great that we are best of friends
And are usually there for each other;
It’s true that what I like best to do at anytime
Is listening to you talk – even about nothing in particular;
It’s funny how I like to stay on the phone
Till late at night after you’ve fallen asleep -
When I can hear your whistling breath and imagine it
Coming through that pretty gap between your front teeth…
But as much as I cherish things as they are,
I can’t settle for it; I must have more!

Poem: Drown it in the flood

You made him the center of your world
But he determined to loose himself and be lost anyway;
The one you called your baby,
Who fed from the bosom of your love,
Has strayed, following his wild appetite elsewhere,
Leaving you tearing at your hair like a miserable hag.

You may cry yourself a flood, my lady,

Poem: Let love be

If it is like my familiar image in the mirror
- seemingly ordinary; undramatic;
a part of me I’m so used to, that I think I barely notice,
yet remaining with me no matter where I go…
could it be love?

Poem: Across the great river

The face of day is darkened in this wilderness -
The earth, from a curse is barren of lasting happiness;
While these black clouds are hanging here so low,
From toil and strife we’ll never respite know…

Across the great river, there is not a shadow of gloom

Poem: Never mine

Then,
It was a little toy robot,
As a boy, I coveted so much,

Poem: Immanuel

Down in the valley of ash and bone
Zion’s hope was worn with chagrin,
Until, on those who sat in darkness, light shone;
Jesse’s stump had budded once again!

… He was a gifted rabbi for sure
And did such miracles none had ever seen,
Yet they could see neither king nor savior
In this most humble Nazarene.

New year palaver

Stringed with so many unsuccessful resolutions and strained with so very demanding wishes, stretched with several uncertain anticipations and chequered with diverse experiences, hard-used and expired, an old year passes out of our lives. Determined to bid it a “stamp-out” goodbye with all it’s staleness, and forcefully catapult themselves to a new world full of freshness, men’s psyches can get quite adventurous in trying to testify of something it can’t tangibly feel.
