Poem: Let love be

If it is like my familiar image in the mirror
- seemingly ordinary; undramatic;
a part of me I’m so used to, that I think I barely notice,
yet remaining with me no matter where I go…
could it be love?

Or if it is like taking down my habitual armor,
having no more urge for self defense
- trusting my protection to somebody else,
though I feel naked, vulnerable or weak…
could it be love?

Or if it is like, the more I try to contain it,
it’s a burning in my inside, making me fumble
or lose composure till I want to throw off all facade
and surrender shamelessly…
could it be love?

Or if it is like a nagging spoilsport;
a speed breaker that makes me want to sit my ass down,
draw a plan, ask myself questions,
act and talk all grown-up and responsible…
could it be love?

Or if it is like a new lease on life;
a dream – a foretaste of opportunity
that makes me want to brace up and take a chance;
an inspiration that my life can be beautiful…
could it be love?

Indeed it is a jungle – confusion;
wild, yet always fresh;
dramatically unnerving, yet naturally exciting;
pure, not incorruptible; having good and bad…
but could it be love?

If it doesn’t feel like the best or strongest
and there’s no way to tell that it’s the wisest
nor could it possibly be the safest;
it may not be the first and may as well not be last
but let it just be,
Honestly and humbly,
Love!

Well done.
