Poem: This Ring…
Let precious metal and precious stone
Make what we’ve whispered known;
Lustrous work of gleaming gold
Our shy feelings to make bold.
I asked to be the life-keeper of your hand
So accept this engagement band,
Let it hold unto your heart’s rein -
the nerve that’s called “love’s vein”.
This is what the gift says clear:
“Waiting is almost o’er”
To be together, me and you both!
Like spices in well cooked broth.
Our hearts have cast a mutual vote
By this ring’s promise, we betroth;
Precious object, binding our love, instrumental -
More sacred than mere sentimental!
